Dewayne Atkinson was born and raised in Mississippi. Small towns and communities are where his roots were planted and where his heart stays. He spent the majority of his life and school time in Carthage but moved during high school and graduated from Simpson County Academy. While there, Dewayne was part of a winning history with multiple state championships in football and baseball. Upon graduation, he continued his athletics at Mississippi College. Later, he started a career in the oil and gas industry, working in the Gulf of Mexico for Helmerich and Payne IDC. He worked his way up to drilling and supervising roles at a young age and then transitioned from the Gulf of Mexico to the land division within the industry, drilling and producing all over the US. Eventually, Dewayne became a consultant overseeing all operations and managing the entire process from start to finish.

After 17 years in the industry, being home with family became the most important thing. His love and passion for Jesus Christ, family, the outdoors, land, and creating memories is what lead Dewayne to SmallTown Hunting Properties & Real Estate. As an avid outdoorsman, he has spent many days in the river swamps, hardwood bottoms, and hill country in Mississippi hunting whitetails, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, and alligators. He grew a passion for filming while on hunts with his son and friends, which ultimately led to the creation of Southern Attraction Outdoors. Experiencing new things and hunting turkeys all across the country and deer in the Midwest just fueled that passion for land and helping others even more!

Dewayne and his wife Loren, along with their three children Rowan, Ruston, and Adalyn currently reside in Lamar County. They all love hunting and spend every moment they can on their farm in Smith County.
