Russ was born and raised in the small town of Petrey, AL, centrally located between Montgomery, Troy, Enterprise, and Greenville. He was raised working on a row crop farm and a poultry farm, which also raised cattle. Russ is an avid hunter and conservationist. He managed and owned a large-scale poultry farm for over 20 years. Russ has managed personal land, family land, and numerous leases for wildlife for more than 30 years.

He specializes in recreational properties in the Patsaliga River basin and the famous Black Belt region of Alabama. Additionally, Russ specializes in the poultry industry statewide.
